Classic A and Classic V

The two basic MSNR levels come from a colour change. A bull candle followed by a bear candle makes a Classic A (resistance). A bear candle followed by a bull candle makes a Classic V (support).

Classic A▼ reactionbull close
Classic A: draw from the bull candle's close (= the next bear candle's open) and extend right. The dotted line is the line chart, showing the A shape.
Classic V▲ reaction
Classic V: draw from the bear candle's close (= the next bull candle's open). On a line chart it is a V.

Fresh or tested

A fresh level has not been touched since it formed. The first return to a fresh level usually gives the cleanest reaction. A wick that touches it makes it tested. A body that closes through it breaks it, and the next lesson on flips shows what happens then.

Rules

  • Use the swing's close, not its wick.
  • Pick clear swings that started a move, not every little bump inside a range.
  • Wait for price to come back. The best reaction is a wick that touches the level and closes away from it.
  • A Classic level becomes much stronger when it sits on a higher-timeframe level.

Common mistakes

  • Drawing the line at the highest wick.
  • Marking dozens of tiny A and V shapes inside choppy price.
  • Entering the moment price touches the level without any other reason.

Check yourself

1. Which pair of candles forms a Classic A?
2. Where exactly do you draw a Classic V?
3. Price comes back to a fresh Classic A, wicks above it and closes below. What is that?
